Modifying Android for the SmartQ V7
Yesterday, I tried my hand at modifying the Android file system on the V7. I went for a small modification: I tried to remove some of the expired third party programs included in the firmware. Most of my guidance came from this document posted in this SmartQMID forum post. It is a guide for modifying firmware files for the SmartQ V5/V7 in Linux.
I started by downloading the SmartQV SDK . The programs needed are the compress.v and uncompress utilities. I used uncompress to unpack the filesytem and modified the root file system, then compressed it.
Unfortunately when I installed it, the programs were still there. I am not sure if I did something wrong, or if the new version was installed OVER the existing version.
I tried rebuilding the files in Windows with smartqextractor.exe, but the file would not even update.
SIGH! I'll try again . . .
